STORYTIME: I LOCKED MY KEYS IN MY TRUNK

Locked my keys in my trunk

Omg. I’m sure this has happened to the best of us. One minute we’re being responsible and mature and the next minute we’re looking up ways to unlock a locked trunk.

FYI. There’s actually no way to open a locked trunk or car by following instructions on wikiHOW or YouTube.

I tried, and did I mention I failed?

In my case, looking up such a thing via the web can be explained for reasons you are probably familiar with:

For one, there’s a sense of instant relaxation that comes over you. It’s like even though in your soul you know you’ll be unsuccessful (because let’s get real here) — you feel better searching the web than just standing there. Likely to experience an anxiety/panic attack because you locked your FREAKING KEYS in the trunk.

Two, it gives you the best 30 seconds of reprieve. Before you realize that there’s no wikiHOW or YouTube that will save you. You’re pretty SOL like I was Saturday morning.

Nevertheless, keep reading for the latest story time on WLT, I Locked My Keys In My Trunk.

Later in the post, I’ll also be sharing details on the look featured.

As I mentioned, it was Saturday morning (two days ago) when my life became a question of, how irresponsible could I be.

I got dressed to head back to the side of town where I mostly grew up. I had early morning plans to meet my best friend Josh for breakfast. Who, can I just say was more than excited about all you could eat pancakes from IHOP lol.

Anyway.

I showered and got dressed in a rush. I had a massive tote for my blankie and pillow in one arm. In the other, I had my tiny sand beige BEBE chain bag. Needless to say, i was carrying too much. Or at least it felt like it. My phone was practically dead, but I snagged my charger and rushed out my apartment. Naturally, assuming i’d be able to charge it once I got in the car. When I made it to my car, the first thing I did was open my trunk.

I didn’t unlock my car or anything. Which was the first, but not last mistake i’d make that morning.

I threw the tote bag in the trunk and set my keys down next to it. I was digging for my charger cord and needed a free hand.

What happened next was beyond me you guys BEYOND.

I found my charger, glanced back once (second mistake because who glances back ONCE), and closed my trunk.

Now get this. The moment I closed my trunk it hadn’t dawned on me even then that my keys were inside. I didn’t get a gut feeling that I had just royally screwed up. Nothing hit me. I just rounded the corner and pulled back on the driver side door. It’s then that everything that didn’t hit me when I closed the trunk, hit me in spades.

I locked my keys in my trunk.

Grabbing my phone that was now on 5% I searched the web for ways to open a locked trunk. For 30 seconds as I scrolled through the web, I felt relaxed and untroubled. However, as you can imagine it didn’t last long. The weight of the circumstance I had put myself in hit me again in spades.

I had no keys, so that meant:

I couldn’t get into my apartment.
I couldn’t charge my phone. So of course my phone was going to die.
There was no way I was making it to breakfast with Josh.

The third mistake I made was calling Josh to let him know what happened. Simply because the phone that was on 5% went dead in a matter of minutes.

Could my level of irresponsibility reach greater heights?

Turns out it couldn’t. I at least had the sense to head to my leasing office (charger cord in hand), with hopes of solving my ever evolving dilemma.

And as luck would have it? Solve it I did. I was able to get in contact with a locksmith who didn’t charge me a thing. He lived on site and opened my trunk in a matter of minutes. Ha! Shout out to my damsel in distress charm that obviously won him over.

I ended up making it to Josh, two hours later, but hey. I made it. Although he may or may not have been 3 stacks in.

In any event, moral of the story? Never set your keys down in your trunk. Always glance back, at least three times give or take. Oh and never make outgoing calls to someone who can’t immediately help you, if your phone is on 5%.
