It’s the most wonderful time of the yeeeear (please tell me you read that in the same sing song voice I did when typing it up). & no I’m not talking about Christmas. I’m talking about the Spring / Summer 2020 Shows during New York Fashion Week (NYFW) this Fall!
For as long as I can remember I’ve always been someone who followed NYFW like a hawk. I’m talking watching the live-stream of designers’ shows when I could and making sure I spotted my favorite celebrity IT girls in the audience. So ritualistic of me, I know. I mean rituals are in fact meant to be kept to and maintained lol. If you love fashion week like I do, have you ever taken out the time to watch them though? The it girls that is? They always seem to be so mesmerized by the pieces making its way down the runway. They also seem to have this thing where they manage to look amazing the entire time, no matter the show or the company. From posing outside of the show , entering, and/or sitting — they make it all look so effortless.
Le’sigh.
New slogan alert. NYFW, where dreams are made of and the faces of your favorite IT girls stay snatched on the regular.
Anyway.
Keeping to my yearly fashion week ritual, I’ve been keeping an eye out for the NYFW it girls of the season! So bear with me as I break down my 6 picks for the NYFW it girls of this Fall’s New York Fashion Week.
p.s. if you’re someone who doesn’t know too much about NYFW, I’ll clue you in on the most important part: The designers create clothing, seasons in advance to set the tone for what will be trending in that coming season. The current fashion week happening now (Fall 2019) is previewing the fashions for Spring / Summer 2020.
Now back to regular scheduled programming.
DRAYA MICHELE
My first NYFW it girl needs know introduction. She’s spent the last couple of years making sure of that. When I tell y’all Draya did not come to play with any of us during fashion week. My goodness. She has made it clear at every show she has attended that yes. She may have gotten her foot in the door unconventionally (s/o basketball wives), but she knows a thing or two when it comes to fashion and she’s here to STAY. I stand for you Draya, I stand. I have honestly been blown away with how she’s transitioned day to day, from look to look so effortlessly. Wow. Keep stepping on our necks sis. We’re all rooting for you.
ZENDAYA
Is it just me or does it go without saying that this babe will kill whatever she puts on? It can’t just be a me thing right? The way Zendaya has blossomed from her Disney Channel K.C. Undercover days (s/o cast and crew because that show used to hit LOL) to this fashion maven with the help of stylist extraordinaire Law Roach? Whew, growth is a beautiful thing when done with grace and guidance. Side note: did y’all happen to peep her collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger at this year’s NYFW?! Fashion excellence with touches of African American culture included. The Lord was working over time for their good. Not sure I’ll ever enjoy a show as much as I did that one.
GIGI & BELLA HADID
Iconic. Ever since making their way on the fashion scene a few years ago, they have become and will continue to be forces to be reckoned with. I’m not sure it’s even possible to think of NYFW it girls and not think of them. Their range is so wide, going anywhere from models in the shows to spectators on the sidelines. With such a unique perspective it only makes sense that their it girl status reigns for years to come.
SOFIA RICHIE
Not even going to lie to you guys, but I woke up one day, got on Instagram, and suddenly two things became crystal clear to me where this babe is concerned. For one, she’s goooorgeous. Two, she brings it fashion wise. I’m not sure why it took me so long to realize that Sofia Richie is far more than the young girlfriend of Scott Disick (father of the eldest Kardashian’s kids), but thank God I eventually did. Her looks for NYFW have been to die for. I’m talking hair, makeup, clothing — on one. Nicole Richie may need to step aside as my favorite Richie. Sofia Richie just about has her beat.
NORMANI
What a year this babe has had. From going on tour with Ariana Grande to releasing one of my favorite songs this past month, Normani proves to her fans and even naysayers that this is surely a time to be alive. I couldn’t help but love the way she has owned NYFW with her daring looks and confident attitude. You better show that stomach and those legs girl. It also doesn’t hurt that she is a Houston native repping for Clutch City in a way that makes us so dang proud. This beautiful chocolate queen has made NYFW her own and without question belongs in the NYFW it girls roundup.
JUSTINE SKYE
When I tell y’all I have loved this girl since forever ago, believe me. I remember when this babe was on Tumblr singing her heart out and killing it. I always figured she’d make it to the big time, so seeing her at various fashion week shows — owning them and looking amazing while doing so? It makes me so happy for her. Her transition so far during theses past few days have been epic. From a structured architectural piece, to a then crisp metallic suit set, and even a LBD (little black dress) added in the line up.. le’sigh. Just beautiful. Her signature curls have done nothing but add to the trifecta that is her beauty (smile, skin, and skin because duh).
My NYFW it girls make me so proud.
Although I will say. After reading back today’s post in its entirety, I want to grab my purse, slap some makeup on, and become the it girl of my city for the week.
