A LETTER TO MY READERS ON THE FIRST MONDAY OF THE NEW YEAR

It’s the first Monday of the new year and whew am I excited. There’s something so special, so significant about that first Monday. The hustle feels different. Special. Personal.

The grind feels particular, momentous. It feels specific.

The energy feels vibrant. As if we’re all on one accord with the desire to change the tide. Shift the wave. Change our luck.

That’s what walking into work felt like this morning.

We were buzzing.

Similar to how individuals that work for the plant buzz once 5PM hits and it’s officially clock out time. Or the way the department stores buzz during the holidays when any and everyone is attempting to get last minute gifts for their loved ones.

Oh yeah there was a buzz.

A buzz that continued through my arrival on to my specific unit as a once stable patient turned critical.

Fucking aye, Mondays man.

They’re something aren’t they?

I’d imagine that in most cases this is what first Mondays of the year typically feel like.

Buzz worthy.

In addition to the buzz though– It’s the first Monday of the new year and y’all. I woke up feeling brazen.

I woke up feeling bold.

I woke up feeling confident and so sure of myself that I almost texted an old fling and said,

Hope you learned your lesson, you went and blocked what could have been your biggest blessing.

First Monday of the new year got a young thang feeling different honey & thank God for it.

In all seriousness though, cheers to the first Monday of the new year you guys.

Though there’s a buzz and we all hope to start off the year on the best foot, I’m here to remind you to be intentional and take it easy. Be easy with yourself. Sometimes the start of something can make one feel like there’s so much to be done. So much so, that we place a lot of pressure on ourselves & in doing so, that pressure results in stunted growth.

I don’t want our growth to be stunted in this new year.

Not on the first Monday of the year. Hell, not ever.

Instead of pressure, go into this new year with resounding belief that it’s yours.

Have faith that God will do a thing in this new year that will make everything that never went the way you wanted or expected — finally make perfect sense.

This year is yours and in it you will do great things, achieve what’s due, and maintain joy in the face of whatever trials you might experience.

You owe yourself so much this go around and today — on the first Monday of 2022, I hope you kept that at the forefront.

This year is yours. This year is ours. So excuse me while I spend time making this season my personal bitch.

2022, you owe me a lot and I’m not taking anything less than the grandest of gestures.

Cheers to 2022,

Thelms
