STAY CONNECTED: 5 WAYS TO KEEP UP WITH FRIENDS YOU DON’T SEE OFTEN

stay connected

Hi baby loves! How’s your Tuesday been?

I hope swell (do people still say swell or ever say swell? I don’t know, but I like it so I’m rolling with it).

Anyway.

With Summer definitely upon us, I can’t help but feel excited about all there is to do and see. For me, outside of the dread that is summer school, these next few months have always been a great time to reconnect with friends and loved ones. Catching late dinners with girlfriends (and finally hearing the tea on Jake’s latest sidepiece), having sushi with the guys (and hearing about why Chloe’s pissed at Charlie), or hitting the movies with my best friend (and figuring out by the end of it, we’ve seen another shitty movie) — are just a few of the ways I like to get back in the groove of things with friends.

BUT WAIT.

What if they’re not around for the summer?

Though the summertime is a month for reconnecting, it’s also a time when you & your friends may be roaming the world in opposite directions, but there’s no need to fret.

Keep reading for, 5 Ways to Keep Up with Friends You Don’t See Often, & ultimately stay connected.

stay connected1. Make a routine or habit of checking in

I know this seems like a no brainer, but a lot of times it isn’t. Sometimes as individuals we get so wrapped up in what we have going on that we forget to just check in. I know for me, with the friends I don’t normally talk to on a daily basis — I try to hit them up at least once every two weeks. Just because your friend is flying in a different direction than you are (so to speak), that doesn’t mean you forget them till they return. Instead, let them know that you guys are still on track in y’alls relationship and a little distance won’t hurt either of you.

2. Jot down the little things

As day to day life continues to happen while some friends are away, it can be easy to forget things you would normally tell them immediately if they were present. You promise yourself you’ll tell them when they get back or remember to tell them during one of your check-ins, but it slips your mind. You get off the phone hours later, and chide yourself for forgetting to mention the amazing day you had a week ago again. Hey! It happens to the best of us. However, I learned a few years ago that there is power behind writing things down for memories sake, even if it’s the little things. Jot it all down and when you guys chat — fill them in on what’s new, and allow them to do the same.

3. Send funny snapchats + instagram mims you know they’ll find hilarious

This is literally the BEST. My friends and I all do this all the dang time. It’s the easiest way to share laughs via you guys’ social channels without necessarily talking on the phone. It adds a shake up to the constant boring routine that phone calls can bring at times.

4. Follow up

This can be a bit difficult to remember in the midst of conversation, but it’s the best way to let them know you care; even if their miles away. Try to keep in mind what they’ve told you last, the previous time y’all spoke and follow up. Ask them how the new hotel is working out after they had to move because of a reservation shake up. Find out if they got the cute guy/girl’s number they met on the beach two weeks ago. Remind them to take pictures on the cliff even though they were complaining of still being afraid of heights. Tell them they’re worries about their SO while they’re gone are unfounded because they’re being good LOL. They may seem trivial, but it could mean the world to them knowing that even though they’re away, you still care. Oh! & you’re thinking about them.

5. Have a Pow Wow when they return

Last, but certainly not least — CELEBRATE THEIR RETURN. Make them feel not only enthusiastic about your enthusiasm that they’ve returned, but also that nothing has changed between the two of you. Go have a drink, grab an early lunch, catch a late movie and just bask in the return of your buddy. After all who knows, you may be the one flying in the opposite direction next.

Safe travels babes,

Thelms xx
