From Lil Kim hitting the carpet in an iconic purple ensemble with a sticker over her boobs to Rose McGowan rocking a see through black number that made everyone aware of her cup size — the Video Music Awards have always been an big night for fashion. Naturally, after seeing the fashion choices on the carpet I’m crowning the best dressed babes at the VMAs.
JENNIFER LOPEZ
With the VMA’s being her night to shine (Michael Jackson Vanguard Award recipient), she did not disappoint. She looked amazing in this off shoulder silver sequin number. The slit? Typical bad ass Jenny from the Block. Her hair was a lighter blonde which proved perfect for the silver sparkle in her dress. I particularly loved that her makeup was simple and her lash was dramatic and wispy. You guys, there’s nothing better than a simple beat with a dash of drama in the eye area. C’mon smoky eye! After all, it’s with continued grace and elegance that JLo continues to prove to us why she’s still that bih. It’s also no wonder that she made my list of best dressed babes at the VMAs.
KYLIE JENNER
This white blazer dress was EVERYTHING. Who begs to differ?! Kylie quietly shut shit down when she stepped out on the carpet in this white number. There’s something about a babe in white that should make every man that sees her drop to their knees. & don’t even get me started on that blonde hair. Blonde and Kylie Jenner = a match made in hair heaven. I love that she didn’t take the dramatic route with her look and kept things simple and classy. Especially given that the night was about her boo Travis Scott and his performance. Honestly, ever since giving birth to their daughter Stormi — Kylie has been killing it. I guess they weren’t lying when they said a baby really does change everything. 😉
CARDI B
Did this babe really just give birth to a baby girl, not even two or three months ago?! She looked soooo good at the award show. I’m not usually a huge velvet fan, but Cardi may have turned me into a believer — even if it is for one night. The short pixi cut was perfect for the look because it allowed you to be honed in on her beauty without getting distracted by 30″ extensions. Though she is known to keep things wild and interesting, I appreciated that she took a different route for this award show. She actually had three different looks throughout the show. Switching from this velvet dress, to a red number (which was gooorgeous), and finally to a black short mini with just a dash of drama — baby Kulture’s mom owned the night.
SHAY MITCHELL
This babe always looks amazing. So much so that she could put a paper bag on from Whole Foods and still look BOMB. The VMAs is an award show that doesn’t require ball gowns and overtly expensive Marchesa or Oscar De La Renta dresses. So it’s nice to see babes in mini dresses keeping things fun, light while not taking themselves too seriously. The white and orange of this look did a great job of highlighting her beautifully bronzed skin tone. The hair, the makeup, everything was on point. Naturally she made my cut for best dressed babes at the VMAs.
HALEY KIYOKO
This babe kept her look simple, but elegant in this black sparkled number. The moment I saw this dress on the carpet I fell in love. It might have had a lot to do with the idea that the dress looked like something I’d readily wear. I loved that the sparkled number was long sleeve and that her bust area wasn’t crazily suggestive. The fact that it seemed to perfectly remain “poofed out” around the skirt portion… scooooore.
SHANINA SHAIK
This model babe looked killer in this white jumpsuit designed by Naeem Khan. I think models usually do a great job of playing up their looks at different events without ever looking like they’re trying too hard. The white crystals on the jumpsuit did a great job of making her sparkle on the carpet. Of course you could never go wrong with a good ole’ jumpsuit.
ASHANTI
This Elie Madi dress was so beautiful on the songstress. It accentuated her body in the best way and had just the right amount of sensualness to keep onlookers interested. I love that the dress was off shoulder! She proved like Jennifer that a babe in silver can serve a look without it appearing cheap or lazy.
