MET GALA: Best Dressed

The Met Gala was last night and it was everything. The event is always celebrity-packed with so many coming out to show off their works of art fashion wise at this prestigious gathering. This gala is known as an annual fundraising effort that benefits the Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in the Big Apple (New York City). It marks the launch of the exhibit that showcases this institute’s great costume fashions. What few may not realize is that this event is themed. Every year a new theme is picked and those attending are expected to dress in accordance to what is chosen. This year’s theme: Manus X Machina – Fashion in the Age of Technology. Let’s have a look at who wore my favorite looks of the night!

Met Gala

Poppy Delevinge in Marchesa. This designer always has the ability to keep the look romantic no matter what the occasion is. This dress embodied the theme of the Met Gala and the romanticism that Marchesa brings to all gowns as well. The heavy setting of chains and beads at the top portion of the dress draws you in and almost makes you never want to look away. I do wish her hair had been shorter and in a braid of some sort (braided to the back) so that the intricacy of the gown could be completely visible.

Met Gala

Kim Kardashian West in Balmain. I loved Kim in this look because she looked like a robot, a really beautiful robot. Her look went perfectly with the theme of the evening and gave me all kinds of robot technology vibes while still managing to look practical. The detailing on the bodice portion of the dress was exceptionally crafted. The bleaching of her eyebrows and the minimal smokey eye and overall makeup was a great touch. The ear piece on her left ear did well to accentuate the age of technology theme the night held.

Met Gala

Kylie Jenner in Balmain. For her first gala she knocked this look straight out the park. Absolute home run! Kylie looked so elegant in this gown, I had to take three or four double takes. She literally looked so amazing, I wanted to throw up like gag. The minimal makeup was perfect because it allowed all the attention to be on the masterpiece that was her gown and not her face. Due to her gown being so incredibly detailed and exceptional, going for a blunt hair cut that lacked in length was the ultimate yes. This look fit the theme of the night because of the broad, but not unreasonable shoulders. The numerous vertical lines on the dress reminded me of wires streaming through a circuit or cable of some sort; can you say technology? I love that the shimmer was present, but not overwhelming as well.

Met Gala

Jourdan Dunn in Balmain. Another win for the lead designer at Balmain, Olivier Rousteing. At this point I’m thinking everyone should have gotten duds from him for their Met Gala look. Dunn killed it in this look because she literally looked like she just stepped out of a mix of Divergent, Hunger Games, iRobot, and Transformers. The piece was so structured and form fitting in the best way. I love the high neck and that no skin was visible. The look was sensual while still being classy.

Met Gala

Gigi Hadid in Custom Tommy Hilfiger & Zayn Malik in Versace. As a couple I love them together and I fell harder for them after they both came strolling onto to the gala’s carpet. As a pair they looked stellar, I don’t think I would have liked it as much if they came in individually. I loved the armor added to Zayn’s suit and the accessories that were a part of Gigi’s look.

Met Gala

Ciara in H&M. SLAY, SLAY, SLAY. I loved this look so much especially because it was designed and produced by H&M. The fabric inside the gown that the beading lay over top of was perfect because it gave her actual skin this nice bronze glow that she seems to always have come summer or winter. The hair was a great touch to pick up on the theme of the event without causing the look to be one of overkill. Her brows being shaded in bolder and the smokey eye appearing more prominent allowed for her face to not get lost in the silver of her hair.

Met Gala

Lily Aldridge in Michael Kors Collection. This dress was so simple, yet so beautiful. I love that dress gave off this mirage at least to me that there were tiny spikes on it. Her figure did well to capture the theme of the night and the gold further accentuated it without it being shoved in your face. Her look was subtle, but not boring.

Met Gala

Rachel McAdams in Valentino. The bodice of the gown did all the talking. The seams and the stitching of this gown did everything to ensure that it aligned with the theme of the night, but allowed her to still look practical (as well as beautiful) nonetheless.

Met Gala

Karlie Kloss in Custom Brandon Maxwell.  I saw this on the carpet initially when she had on some overcoat hiding this perfection. When the perfection was unveiled, I just stared. The perfect symmetry in this gown was to die for last night. Everything was so even and cut so cleanly, I couldn’t handle it. I loved the tiny long fabric that went through her mid-line and furthered defined the already impeccable figure she has. Totally gave me classy next century age of technology fashion vibes!
