Two eyes met from across the room,

after a night of wild drinking.

To think their journey got started,

due to a few glasses clinking.

Nights became mornings,

as they stayed up sharing obnoxious laughs.

Before they knew it,

they were talking about the shittiness of their pasts.

6 weeks in, he became her bf,

and she was introducing him as her man.

At this point I guess they figured they’d put a date to things,

so they knew where this all began.

Then 5 months later “I love you” fell out,

over coffee and toasted bagels.

It was from then on that they realized,

this love thing is what kept their relationship stable.

It goes without saying that in their bliss,

there were fights and a few low blows.

Whoever said loving each other was easy,

never experienced the realness of how it sometimes goes.

Nevertheless, they didn’t wait to make it work,

they just threw themselves in it.

They had built a life together,

and weren’t going to give it up over a few misplaced dishes.

Then one day they woke up in a bed,

filled with all their grandchildren.

Looking ’round at her legacy,

she could never thank God enough for sending,

her one in a million.

38 years later,

and she continues to thank the man above.

In her diary she kept a record of it all,

in case one day she’s asked to tell the story of their love.
