THE SECRET TO PREVENTING HANGOVERS

hangovers

So t-minus six more hours (or so) till its the weekend and what a surprise or maybe not really. You already have a night out with friends planned. You plan on drinking till your tummy or your friends say no more and it’s clear you’ve had enough. Have you even stopped to think about the hangover that will be following you like a black cloud in the am?

I’m going to go with the obvious… nope you have not thought about it for a second. Not to worry though! I’m thinking about it for the both of us. So keep reading as I share helpful tips to prevent the hangover coming for you with a vengeance after tonight’s shenanigans.

You’re so welcome, in advance of course.

Personally, I love to have a good time. On a night out with the girls, you can catch me chowing down on good food and even better drinks.

My drink of choice? Skinny Margarita. I mean less of the sugar and more of a “let the good times roll” feels. However as much as I love a good drink after a stressful week, I love waking up the next day and not suffering from the world’s worst hangover.

I mean don’t we all though?

Hangovers can feel so debilitating because you wake up regretting it all. The way you feel for one and most importantly the last drink you had before your friends cut you off.

Did you really need that 6th shot?

This leads me to my tips for preventing a hangover:

Know your limit y’all.

Drinking is all fun and games till you or someone else gets hurt. I’d like to think our body, hell our mind provides us with cues when it’s had enough. So listen. Take heed. Having a good time does not have to mean getting so drunk that you can’t even function. Let alone complete a single task for the following day because you’re so damn out of it… still from the night before.

Eat before drinking.

Eating before drinking is one of the best ways to prevent hangovers. Food prevents the alcohol from running straight through your body and nervous system as quickly as it would without it. Although I don’t always take my own advice lol, I definitely notice the difference when I eat before vs. when I don’t. Alcohol also has the ability to decrease your sugar levels within your body rapidly, so eating is more important than ever when you’re drinking.

Stay hydrated.

For every few shots you have or one drink, try to stay hydrated by drinking water. Alcohol has the ability to cause dehydration. Dehydration then increases the likelihood of feeling so out of it that hangovers have no choice to form the following morning and on. Take it from someone who knows LOL. This particular lesson I learned the hard way. Le’sigh.

Keep yourself accountable.

Drinking is fun, it really is but it should never severely get in the way of your ability to function. So hold yourself accountable. Set out a plan for the night before you’re in the midst of it all. It doesn’t have to be as rigid as, “I will only have three drinks and that’s it.” Nope, not what I’m saying at all. Just prepare ways to get around feeling pressured to drink or losing count of how many you’ve tossed back is all. Take ownership for the choices you’ll make tonight so coming to terms with the result in the morning is possible.

I haven’t had a hangover in yeeeeeeeeears y’all and I’d like to think it’s because I keep to this regimen (more or less) whenever I’m out on the town.

To drinking responsibly tonight and every night you stop in your favorite bar for a drink or two,
