My Words

Just the Two of Us

two of us

Today is Valentine’s Day and for many this is a day you will be celebrating with a loved one. What about the singles though? This holiday is so centered around the individuals with a significant other, that those without one are an afterthought. I want to focus on us today; just the two of us. You and I. We’re not sad and we shouldn’t be bitter, just focused on ourselves. Focusing on loving ourselves more and more, and knowing our worth is necessary before anything or anyone comes along.

Loving yourself. It’s easy to forget how important it is to love yourself outside of finding someone who could do that for you. Our society gives us the impression that we need someone in order to fill the void that comes on days like today, but that isn’t true. Remember that to be enough for another person, you have to know that who you are is enough for you. Remember that on the days you feel unlovable. Remember that on the days you don’t feel heard. Remember that on the days you feel lonely and abandoned. Remember that on the days you don’t feel good enough: You are good enough and you are worthy. Remember that today. You don’t need anyone especially a man to validate you. You have to believe that you are enough, and not rely on a man to tell you so.  I’m not perfect you guys and I’ll be open enough to say that. I used to think I needed that validation from some in order to be okay with who I was. However, I realized something a while ago that changed my thoughts forever. No man is going to validate the good in you if you don’t believe there’s any good in yourself to begin with. It just won’t work because loving yourself begins from the inside out and not the other way around.

Self worth. Although, there are those that will belittle your worth and make you feel like you are too much; too hard. You were never too difficult, too hard… He just wasn’t man enough to love the complex layers of you. Someone once told me that when you know your worth you’re less likely to deal with foolishness. Shake off self doubt and stand in your truth. Any man who makes you feel like you can’t be loved or you’re not worthy of love… well you know where to tell them to shove it. While you’re out there dreaming of one day celebrating your love with another person like so many do today, singles let’s celebrate the love within us. The love inside of us that keeps us going when we feel too tired to carry on. The love inside of us that comforts you and I on lonely nights… that holds our hand when it begs to be held. The love inside of us that will one day shower someone deserving and worthy. And when you find them make sure they’re not afraid; afraid of telling you everyday how much they crave you, need you, & get you the way you get yourself. It isn’t us who should be questioning if we are worthy. It is them who should question, if they are worthy of us. Till that time comes it’s just the two of us. You and I.

Happy Valentine’s Day to us. Personally, I don’t need a Valentine. All you guys who leave me sweet comments, check out the blog, and support me are my Valentines this year.
