MORE JESUS IN JULY SERIES: WEEK TWO

compassionate

Hi babes and Happy Sunday. If you tuned in last week to this series then you know what time it is. If you didn’t and have no idea what’s going on… ABORT ABORT. No, I’m kidding! Catch up here and come back and join me.

Okay. So for my babes who tuned in last week, before jumping into tonight’s bible verse — what did/do you think about the start of this series? I would love some feedback from you guys because starting this series was a very personal decision for me. I wanted to reconnect with my faith and Christ, and in doing so hoped to share some words from the good book that may lighten up your life every week.

Am I doing that for you guys? I sure hope so.

In the meantime, keep reading for today’s bible verse and chat about its relevancy.

compassionate

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. “

Colossians 3: 12

In this day and age where hiding your emotion and not being openly good is all the rage, this verse can be particularly challenging. Being closed off, impatient, indifferent, cruel or selfish is celebrated a lot of the time in today’s world with statements like:

Don’t let anyone get too close and you won’t get hurt.

Remain indifferent to avoid heartache.

Being too gentle will only allow room for you to be taken advantage of.

That’s not my problem.

However, it shouldn’t be this way.

Christ says things like compassion, gentleness, kindness, and humility are things we should not only seek, but become.

We shouldn’t let the darkness of worldly things dim the light of the Lord’s little things. Little things like showing compassion for those in need; being kind to those who face hardships unknown to us; finding patience with people or things that don’t move at the same pace as oneself; forgiving those who have caused pain, big or small, etc. In doing so, we might find it easier to forgive those who have hurt us. We might also find it easier to not be swallowed whole by the unfortunate events that life can sometimes bring.

Personally, there’s been many times in my life where being closed off has been so much easier than being open. It goes with the notion that, if I’m closed off those people or that person won’t ever know enough about me to hurt me. Plus, having seen people who show those characteristics of Christ get hurt or worse, has caused me to shy away from being always open or gentle. Regardless, it isn’t the way to live. Beyond having and expressing these characteristics, we must also have faith in Christ.

Faith that he will guide and protect our heart.

Faith that being kind, compassionate, and gentle will bring blessings greater than any hardships.

Faith in the idea that though we may get hurt, Christ will heal our souls and renew our spirit.

So tonight I leave you babes with a challenge for tomorrow.

Go out into your world and: be compassionate, parade kindness, show humility, make room for patience, and remain gentle.

See you babes next Sunday in week three of this five weeks series about attaining more Jesus in July.
