What are you looking for in a man, in a partner?
Surprisingly, that’s a question my friends ask me often. I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve been single for a bit OR because they think I’m so great and know I deserve someone just as great. Hehehe.
I think it’s the latter LOL, or maybe a bit of both?
The more people have begun to ask me, the more I’ve started really thinking about my answer and what I’m really looking for. Yeah I’ve dated here and there, having my fair share of flings but nothing that would constitute being worthy of a mention.
After taking some time to think, I now know exactly what I’m looking for; someone to hold my hand.
Through my triumphs and accomplishments, holds my hand.
When I feel defeated and have nothing more to give, holds my hand.
To ease my pain & take the brunt of it for a little while, holds my hand.
While looking at me like they love me and I’m all they’ll ever see, holds my hand.
When I’m too weak to hold my own, holds my hand.
As we walk through life together at times running through the madness of it all, holds my hand.
If I’m nervous and need a squeeze of encouragement, holds my hand.
When the silence is deafening and my thoughts are running wild within me, holds my hand.
Through all the bullshit I may or may not put them through with this mouth of mine, holds my hand.
Just because they need to touch me and can’t help but get close, holds my hand.
As we laugh about nothing & sometimes everything, holds my hand.
Because words aren’t enough to ease the sadness within some days just, holds my hand.
As we watch TV and play footsie under the covers, holds my hand.
When life starts to get hard and I mean really really hard, holds my hand.
Brings in the mail and the acceptance letter or job application decision finally arrives, holds my hand.
Makes me feel safe and secure because he always, holds my hand.
I know everything will always be okay with— through the good times and the bad because he will always be with me, holding my hand.
Because outside of my parents and my best friend, I’ve been doing all of the work. Holding my hand through every amazing high & all the defeating lows. I refuse to be with anyone who isn’t home for me, doesn’t protect me, love me unconditionally, and have my back till the wheels fall off.
So the next time anyone asks, “What I’m looking for in a man, in a partner?” The answer will be simple.
Someone who is ready to take the reigns for a little or maybe even forever, and just hold my hand…
