IT’S CUFFING SEASON: HOW TO DEAL WHEN YOU’RE SINGLE AF

cuffing season

Is it just me or does it seem like everyone has a boyfriend right now? Everywhere I turn there’s a cute couple holding hands, taking a selfie and uploading it from the pumpkin patch (bae activities), or smacking you in the face with their PDA. Seriously, give me a break. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised because it is cuffing season.

Cuffing season is what us millennials know as a time where everyone snags a boyfriend. Everyone you knew to be single, just a few months ago now magically has a bf. What the heck? You then realize that while everyone has snagged a boyfriend, you’ve managed to remain single AF. Go figure.

The crazy thing is that just a few months ago being single was empowering. Your good girlfriends were over every weekend talking all things fun and thanking the heavens above that they didn’t have men to tie them down. You guys were going out constantly and making the most of your weekends. Being in a relationship was the last thing on your mind… or theirs. Then it happened. A few months later they’ve met someone and now your group selfies have become a two person feature. You start to feel awkward about the fact that you’re the only single one in the group now. That or feeling like the constant third wheel grows tiring, so you distance yourself. Everyone starts trying to set you up with any and everyone, not understanding that you’re really okay. Being single is actually not THAT bad, even if it’s cuffing season.

Although, being single during this time of the year can be tough at times. One minute I want to be in love and feeling sappy about it all, and the next minute I couldn’t be more pleased with myself for remaining single (don’t tell anyone, but commitment freaks me out). So what to do when you’re feeling like me at times (sappy and wanting to be in love) and can’t figure out how to deal with the most treacherous time of the year for singles? STAY BUSY, with a capital SB.

Having too much down time is the worst thing you can do to yourself during cuffing season. Too much free time makes you notice how single AF you really are and that’s not what we’re trying to do here babes. We’re trying to FORGET, not remember. Go out with friends who are single, there’s no way every.single.one of your friends are cuffed up. Well, oh gosh I sure hope not. There’s bound to be girlfriends who are feeling like you. In my case, whenever one of us is single in the group — at least another one of us is too!

The most important thing about being single is having a good time, so do that. HAVE A GOOD TIME. You were having a good time before cuffing season and that doesn’t have to stop now. No way. You don’t have to be in a relationship to enjoy this time of the year. Go shopping with your girls, drink at girls night till doing the moonwalk actually seems possible, and go back to making the most of your weekends. I think the key to not dreading this time of the year is staying busy. As cliche as it may seem, also use this time to focus on yourself. Find time to do what you really love, even if that means doing it alone every now and again. Sometimes, the best company to have around is ourselves.

Stop scrolling through Facebook and Instagram wishing you were at the pumpkin patch with your boo, hell a boo. Keep in mind, no one likes a bitter Betty. Instead, be a chipper Cali and make a trip of it by grabbing your girlfriends to go with you! Your pictures are bound to turn out much better because who knows your angles better than your girls?
